VITRA 689: NEXT GENERATION PDT LASER

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a therapeutic procedure, introduced to ophthalmology in the late 90s which utilizes verteporfin, a photosensitive intravenous drug in combination with a low power, long duration 689nm red Laser (Vitra 689). It is used to treat vascular issues in the retina and choroid.

It was first indicated for neovascular age related macular degeneration (AMD).

As new therapies have evolved, it is now typically used as a second-line treatment for neovascular AMD.

PDT is now most often used to treat polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), cases of chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and ocular tumors.
