Tarragona, Spain

Dr Alejandro Filloy

Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII de Tarragona - Department of Ophthalmology

This is a treatment of a male patient MacTel 1 in his left eye. Macular telangiectasia (MacTel) is a disease affecting the macula, causing loss of central vision. MacTel develops when there are problems with the tiny blood vessels around the fovea. In Type 1 MacTel, the blood vessels dilate and tiny aneurysms form, which leak and cause swelling. SubLiminal® laser treatment with Easyret® was initiated in this patient. After six months, a significant improvement is observed.

Anamnesis :

This is a 51-year-old man diagnosed with MacTel 1 in his left eye, referred after long history of unsuccessful treatments including intravitreal anti-VEGF and steroids.

Subliminal® laser is an alternative to the conventional continuous-wave laser for the treatment of retinal or macular diseases.

In contrast to the conventional laser, the therapeutic effect of the subthreshold laser is not accompanied by thermal retinal damage. This fact is of particular importance when a treatment near the fovea is required.

This laser method has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment option for macular pathologies such as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), diabetic macular edema (DME).
